Good luck to him - looked fantastic in pre-season for us but it never really happened for him once the league season got underway.

"Keep your head down, foot through the ball"
Cheshunt's view on Luke:
"Ambers Pick Up Title-Winner Tony Faulkner, manager of Ryman League Division One North club Cheshunt, has added to his young side for the coming season 2013/14. Published 6th June 2013
Faulkner has added to his talented squad with the addition of Luke Marshall, who played thirty-two times last season for Grays Athletic in their championship-winning season.
Marshall is a talented player who has played previously for Watford as a youth player before making over fifty appearances for Enfield Town.
More recently he has turned out for Ware, Broxbourne Borough and then Harlow Town before moving to Grays in the summer of 2012.
Faulkner said: "Luke will be a good addition to Cheshunt FC, and will help in our push for promotion.
“Having worked with him before I know that he can offer goals and always gives me hard work. He knows most of the squad well, so settling in won't be a problem. “Luke can also play various positions, and that is useful for me. When his confidence is high, he is as good as any wide player in the league.”
Good luck to Luke of course, but such a glowing reference seems a bit toppy to me.
32 games, but only 21 starts for us last year. 2 goals (including the infamous "handball" one against Needham),hardly suggests a major goalscorer. Cheshunt were the biggest under achievers in the League year, rather like us two years ago when we came into the Ryman set up.
We'll see how they get on this time around. Like MalTip last season, they are my tip for a play off place at least.

Luke was always going o leave.his mates play for Cheshunt and he told me at Maldon back in December or whenever we played them that he wanted to go to Cheshunt! He was very cheesed off at the time coming to the match and not even being on the bench! He told me that he had a small child at home and he' d rather ha e stayed at home with him than come and not even be on the bench! I fully understood his frustration and, personally, I thought he was underused. Having said that......if we re- signed Newby, Luke wouldn't have a chance! I was just surprised, given that he'd said he wanted to go to Cheshunt, that he then was reported to have turned them down later in the season! I think he'll do we'll if given a good run! A few officials from other clubs, fa and Ryman people made comments about him last season....many of them were very impressed by him!
