We have now been back in pre season since the 22nd June with players at different fitness levels due to holidays some ongoing injuries etc, but are now beginning to see the levels improve as each session goes by. Currently Darky is away but due back next week mitch is with the GB team and Rob Bartley should be ok for some minutes at the weekend. We have also now played three games all against higher opposition and certainly were pleased with the game against hornchurch as it was the first time the new squad and trialists had played together and it turned out to be a good competitive game with which a lot was learnt. The second game against Dartford was even more pleasing as for a majority of the game we moved the ball well and with a purpose and tempo scoring an exceptional goal before later in the game and as with all pre season games made a number of changes and lost our shape a little which in turn led to making some errors. However the overriding view was a pleasing performance against a team two divisions above us which was very encouraging.
Last night we met Billericay who played with a real purpose, desire and intensity that was a real learning curve for the players. It put them under pressure that they will not face at our level and then makes decision making, communication, passing and fitness levels so important. This is why we selected such a tough group of pre season games so that the squad could develop under pressure against good teams, improve our fitness levels and understand what was required to learn from our mistakes and keep improving moving forward to the start of the season. So already we have learnt so much as players and a management team of how we can still keep improving. It was also pleasing to see us score another two really well worked goals against a very good defence but disappointing the way we made some poor decisions and created to our own downfall at times. Again I hope this gives an insight to our pre season thoughts so far and again thank you for the support we have seen already for our games cheers joyno
