So it has been three weeks since my last update and chat and thought it time to catch up with you all with thoughts on the pre season as we approach the final game. It firstly has provided us with a very tough level of games which we wanted, to show our weaknesses and strengths as players, coaches and managers. This has been very valuable, with us being able to try a couple of systems and to put the lads under pressure and improve fitness levels ,decision making and a team togetherness. We have been very pleased with games against hornchurch, Enfield, Dartford, tilbury and kingstonian but not so pleased with Cray, Billericay and met police. last night we played cray valley with which the first half was a full on encounter between two good teams with good energy levels and quality from both sides. It was also pleasing to have 4 teenagers start and 3 on the bench which is a positive sign for the future of the club and what we want to try and implement. The downside is as we have seen in many of our pre season friendlies when changes to the team happens we lose shape and concentration levels which obviously something we are aware about but not so concerned as we have been trying to get in as many minutes into the squad as possible and moving forward we would not be changing the team this drastically. The other disappointment has been, not being able to play the full strength squad which last night was again the same with Mitch ,Ashley, Nathan, stokesey and kingy had to rush off to work at half time which is frustrating but has meant we have been able to look at everyone fully. We have been very pleased with the players efforts in training and the games and fitness levels have definitely improved from last season but now the fine turning now needs to happen and training will be focused on the tactical and technical side of the game so players become more understanding of there roles individually and as a team so that we are prepared for the season a head. It will also be good to see mitch back in the camp and I'm sure we are all pleased with the success he has had and hope that will rub off and inspire the players in our team for the season cheers Joyno

Thanks for another informative post Paul much appreciated.
Many of us commented last night on the fitness levels compared to last season, clearly the miles in the legs is paying off. We certainly look a more pacy side something that was lacking last season, the pressure put on defenders by our front men was also good. I thought the first half we knocked the ball around well and seemed comfortable on the ball. Callum has worked hard it was good for his confidence to find the back of the net.
See you at VCD Saturday

Old blue you are 100% right yes we lost again after being one nil up at half time after a decent performance first half and yes we have lost nearly all our pre season games agree with that too the facts are all there. We took this level of games knowing that we could well lose most of them, which the team was aware of as I stated before, to make it as tough a pre season as possible, improve fitness levels and to learn from all of our errors. This we believe has certainly showed in the improvement in fitness and some of the quality of play and goals scored, the downside has been some of the silly errors from poor decision making and this will always happen when the squad is rotated and different formations tried and that is the whole point of pre season to test the squad improve the fitness and get the right final 18 main squad ready for the 17th. It has also been a frustration that we have not fielded the full squad with injuries, people away, illness etc which all clubs go through. Be good to chat with you at one of our games as with any of our supporters I’m always available to give our insights and hope this is useful joyno

Top man, Paul.
You have great experience from working with other clubs and you are bringing that experience to bear with us.
I am sure you and Jim would have preferred to have all of our 21 registered players available for every game, but we all know that at our level that will never happen.
I appreciate your candid assessments which I find refreshing.
Having now seen the players other teams in our Division have signed, it is clear that a number of clubs have financial resources that considerably exceed ours.
I am looking forward to our management pitting their wits against the big spenders and also looking forward to our players wearing the shirt with pride and showing what the underdogs can do.

Friendlies are for the management team to see and try different tactics .Let's not forget that the season we won conference South we didn't do at all good in the pre season matches but it gave the management the chance to try things out

Actually think it has been the best pre season we had ever had 10 difficult games 10 different opponents 10 different results All the hard work the management team has put in over the 6 weeks To improve the fitness of the squad I believe has got our best set of players we have had since our title winning season So now the league starts I will be behind Jim and Paul 100% With there team selections the way they want to play and I believe they have our club going in the right direction

…. and so it begins.
I've only managed to attend a handful of pre-season fixtures but have seen some good performances from many players but sadly??? we have lost most games. I'm not disheartened, I am looking forward to a productive season with some great results. It might take a few games until we see how good this squad is but I am positive we will better last seasons final position.
GO THE BLUES
