With the memory of Ash Miller's heroics in goal last night still fresh,I wondered if anyone can recall any other instances where a Blues outfield player has had to don the keeper's jersey?
I cant imagine that its happened that often.
I'll knock off the easy starter: Last season - Basildon Utd (a) Bogard off injured,3 subs already used,Mitch in goal for the final 40 seconds.

Memory may be playing tricks, but I think Phil Sammons donned the jersey at some point in his 700 plus appearances.

Craig Johnson in 1985 in our Essex Thameside Trophy Semifinal at home to Chelmsford, we won by 2-1 and from memory Craig went in goal after about 15 minutes after Gary Calder was injured

Now I might be a bit out but I'm sure that in the back of my memory is seeing Ian Durrant talking over between the sticks when the goalie got injured

Phil Sammons actually started a match in goal at home to Chelmsford in the Essex Thameside Trophy on the 20th December 1994 in a match which finished 3-3 but I believe we lost on penalties

I did begin to think about penalties in the second half last night.
With Ash's slightly unorthodox methods and Lamar not having a great shoot-out record, I was even dreaming of a win.
Oh me of little faith. I didn't reckon with George Purcell and all the other players who did us proud.
Billericay game is due to be played by 11 Jan, but they look busy with league games, including 7 Jan against Wealdstone. Not sure if that would have to be postponed, or if we will play them a bit later in January.

The legend of Sammo just grows and grows ! Was/Is there no end to that man's talents ? That game must have a story to tell, because the centre-spread shows ''** Andy Marsh replaced Phil Sammons in goal''. But Andy Marsh wasn't one of the subs ! How did that work ?! (Yes,lost 2-4 pens)

My 81 yr memory recalls Kenny Beaney going in goal when Hall was sent off at the Rocks ground. Kenny didn`t save the penalty.

Other: Delfie played outfield v Tilbury ? (87/88 - 93/94) (must have been SVMT)

If Delfie did play against Tilbury up front then it would have been in a friendly, I know he played up front in an away friendly against Corinthian but have nothing for anything else

If Delfie did play against Tilbury up front then it would have been in a friendly... I think you've got it. 9/1/90 friendly Grays Ath 0-6 Tilbury (that's not a typo) ''Benroy Spring'' in goal Next to Delfie's name I've written ''(sub)'' So its possible that is the game (although maybe Delfie came on in goal,I don't remember) On the Tilbury teamsheet that day ''Paul Joynes'' whatever happened to him?!

Didn't Kwabena Osei have a stint in goal after a sending off? You could be right! I seem to remember Kwabs pulling on the gloves in one game.

Couple that can be added
20/7/13 3rd Para XI in a PSF. George changed sides at HT and IIRC Alex Cruickshank went in goal. We won 10-0 27/4/13 Waltham Abbey last game of the season. Lamar sent off. Baker went in goal. Lost 3-5
