I always thought Anti heros were people who did good but lacked the conventional characteristics of a hero. Classic Example would be Avon from Blakes 7. The Former player could of been like a boxer. or be it he Sung like a Butterfly and Danced like a bumble bee. He also played like a bumble bee when with us as well. Because Ashley kept getting stung often enough with him around.

I've never known of a Grays player who has taken so much stick when he only played for us twice! He kept a clean sheet at centre-half in a great 1-0 away win at Stevenage Borough (how many remember Thurgood missing the penalty and Gary Hooper sweeping in the follow-up to win the game?) and was in the side that lost at Morecambe and he was never seen again. He did actually have a reasonable career after that.

I think it was how bad his performance was at Stevenage is the reason for its infamy. The only reason we kept a clean sheet was that Lee Matthews had possibly his best game in a Grays shirt. Lee was immense that day and covered most of Nathan’s passes to the opposition, missed tackles, bad clearances etc. If he’d played for the rest of the season then it wouldn’t of mattered about the quality of the rest of the team, we’d have missed the play-offs and there wouldn’t have been a second trophy triumph.
