Anyone know the answer?
31 August 1992 Isthmian League Charity Shield Woking 5-1 Grays Ath
Why was it played at the neutral ground of Sutton Utd ?
(only two Isthmian League Charity Shield games were ever played at a neutral ground)

I'm sure that was the season that Woking had loads of work done to their ground ( big stand) but why it wasn't played at the rec don't know

I don't recall why this was the case.
I do recall being well beaten by a very good Woking side (they finished 8th in the Conference at the end of that season).
What I do recall though, is that when we submitted our coach bill for the game at Sutton, we were told that we were the first club to ask for a coach fare to be paid from the proceeds of this annual charity game. As we said to the League at the time, charity begins at home and received our costs.

But a good shout Gazza non-the-less.

I couldn't imagine the league wanting such a prestigious game played at the "old Rec" anyway.

I know you and Phil Sammons have been helping Chris Jones with some gaps in our line-up stats over the years and Phil played in the Woking game. Perhaps you could ask him why it was played at Sutton?
Just as a postscript to that season. I said that Woking were a very good side having been promoted into the conference and finishing 8th in that first season. We finished 6th in that season continuing our excellent run in the Premier Division.
As we know, things became more difficult in the following years and we struggled to hold on to our status, with the relegation to Div One in 1997, before the Chris Snowshill promotion season, the Reading 1st Round FA Cup day in 2000 and then the Mike Woodward era.
