Firstly I hope that you, your family and friends are keeping well during these extraordinary times.
I'm not an expert on these things but it seems that we may or may not be back to normal soon.
We may be able to go out or not go out.
If possible, we can be a metre and an inch apart that's if we can't be 2 metres apart.
My point is we do not know where we are with regards to the advice we are receiving from the 'experts' in relation to everyday life so to even consider getting back to football seems light years away.
For those of you who follow Twitter, you would have seen numerous clubs in our league announcing signings and even some getting back to pre season training.
On the first point, signing players is a total waste of time unless they are put on a contract. The league will not accept signing on forms until July and even then, these same players who have been lauded on social media can leave if another club come in for them. Of course if they're on contract, another club would have to pay money for their signature. Our club are currently not in a position to do this because when on contract, you are paid immediately; so some clubs are paying players when we are not even close to starting the season. Joyno and I know that we probably have the 15th /16th best budget in our league so to start paying some players now is not cost efficient.
Pre season training will NOT start until we have a definitive date to start the season. We will need 6 weeks notice to get the players ready. This includes playing enough games to get them match fit and to also have a look at some of the players who we are hoping to bring in alongside those from last seasons squad. My reasons for this are based on their own and their familys safety. The virus has not gone away, we are not testing players and if one player contracts the virus whilst training with the others and then takes it home and passes this onto other family members including potential vulnerable members I just do not think that is the right thing to do. Of course I have discussed this with the players and they are in full agreement with our plans. On top of that, if one does have the virus then every single other person will have to isolate which would be a waste of time.
We have been talking to numerous players, hoping that they will come over and sign. These are very good players who will make us a stronger side/squad. These players alongside most of last seasons one will be announced when the time is right.
